Hello
I'm Gavin. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and my family is Mexican and Colombian. I am currently majoring in Visual Media Arts Production at Emerson College in Boston. There's a little bit more about me down bellow!
Photography
I have grown up surrounded by lots of kinds of art. My mom loves any soul music, and my dad loves latin music. I naturally inherited a mix of both, plus more rock and indie material. My dad also used to do lots of photography on his free time and any time he traveled. I remember being so amazed by his camera when I was little. Then, right around when COVID started (I was in 7th grade), I began going on walks with him and doing street photography on our phones. My parents gifted me a camera for my birthday and I have been shooting ever since. It first started with cool cars and pretty looking flowers, but then I began to evolve what I captured. More and more, I was drawn to people. Especially in street photography. While there are some questions of ethics, I think the most valuable piece to me is the moment where a subject looks at the camera fully unguarded, vulnerable, raw. It is only for a split second. But when I capture it, trust me it is the best feeling in the world. That's what I look for, that split second, and hopefully through my photography you can feel the moment as well!

Film
I expanded my world from photography to film as well a year after I started (8th grade). I used my tiny camera to shoot a short film noir for a school project, and it ended up sparking an interest in a whole new world of production. I was obsessed, and I still am, but even more. Yet I still find myself chasing that same feeling in my cinematography as I do in a photo. Emotion. While capturing that is a bit trickier in a scripted environment, I do what I can to preserve beautiful but authentic images that don't pull the viewer out of the story, but rather immerse them even more. I still have so much to learn but this website is a record of my growth. So, enjoy!
